What does a consultation consist of?
Consultations are suggested for all of my services. During your consultation, we can decide on the style, treatment options, and the price of your service(s). Please allow me to see your hair in its natural state. No braids or blow-dried hair, please. I will make suggestions during the consultation, but the ultimate decision for your final style is yours. I want you to be satisfied. Making you happy makes me happy. Please have an idea of what styles you may like so we can discuss them during this time. This helps me to determine what services your appointment will consist of. Due to limited seating, I can only effectively give one consultation at a time. Please do not have friends with you because I will not be able to answer their questions during your consult. All seats in salon are for customers only. Please note: A deposit is required for styles that will take more than 3 hours to complete.
When should I arrive for my consultation/appointment?
Please check in 10-15 minutes prior to the start of your appointment.
What if I need to cancel my consultation/appointment?
If you find yourself unable to keep an appointment, we request a 24-hour notice. Guests who do not honor their appointments or cancel in less than 24 hours will be charged a cancellation fee.
What if I'm late for my appointment?
It is understandable that things come up, traffic may be heavy, or you may be lost... driving in a circle trying to locate the salon. If you are late, I may have to shorten or re-schedule your appointment. If your treatment is shortened, it will end on time so the next guest will not be delayed. I hope you understand.
How far in advance do I need to schedule my consultation/appointment?
To ensure I can accommodate your request, please schedule your appointment at least 2 to 4 weeks in advance. Guests are welcome to schedule their next appointment when checking out. Consultations are required for all new guests.
Your appointment day
Sophia Sunflower Salon offers a complimentary shampoo and conditioning treatment for your initial style. If you would like me to remove your twists or artificial hair, or detangle your hair, please let me know when scheduling your appointment. These services require additional time, and an additional charge. If during your appointment you change your mind about the services agreed to during your consultation, I will provide you with a price for the new services.
Your service has been completed
At your consultation, we established what style you have desired. Please be certain about your choices because I will not give any refunds. You are encouraged to look at your hair during the styling process. At the end of your service, I will give you instructions to maintain your hair at home. After your hairstyle is complete and you have left the premises, you are agreeing that you are pleased with your service. Please feel free to look at your finished style before leaving the salon so that I can do my best to correct any issues to your satisfaction. If you are unsatisfied or feel there is something wrong with your service after you leave the salon, I will ask you to leave your hair exactly the way it is and return to the salon so that I may assess what I can do to ensure your satisfaction. If you decide to remove or change your hair for any reason before allowing me to see your hair, a new appointment must be scheduled, and charges will apply. Please keep in mind that I cannot determine how long a hairstyle will last, I can only generalize. I cannot predict that your hair will not frizz (this is a natural occurrence with natural hair). In the event that you decide not to allow me to complete your hair service, I will only charge you for the services you have received to that point. Please do communicate with me , prior to the service , please be open and tell me what services you would like, and what you would like done, I will review what we discussed during the consult , please be open and tell me if you are changing your mind or expecting something different. Please do not assume I know how you would like your hair, be open and talk while you are at the salon .My goal is for you to be satisfied but I cannot if you do not tell me while you are there . ( For example if you say you want a trim and I do not cut enough off ask me to cut more off).
What if I have special health considerations?
Please notify me prior to your appointment. I will try my best to accommodate you.
Where do I park?
A complimentary parking lot is located at the salon for your convenience. If your appointment is after 5 p.m., please park on the street to avoid being towed.
Do you allow cell phones/laptops?
Surely! Guests are welcome to bring their cell phones with them to their appointment. I also have WI-FI service if you need to bring your laptop. Feel free to charge your cell phone while you are getting your service.
What methods of payment do you accept?
Payment is made at the end of your visit. I accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, PayPal and Debit Cards.
What color system do you use?
The Color Systems I use are ECO Colors. While this is a natural color line, a patch test is advised. Just because a product is natural or organic does not mean you will not develop sensitivity. Sophia Sunflower Salon, Inc. assumes no responsibility or liability of an allergic reaction to a product or patch test. This color line has been used in my salon for several years. Please keep in mind that color is sometimes unpredictable and cannot be guaranteed as the exact color on the swatch. There are no refunds on color services.
The online booking form must be submitted prior to a color application. ECO Colors Hair Color is a non-toxic product that does not contain the chemical PPD, found in most chemical-based hair colors. However, it does contain high-quality ingredients such as lecithin, vitamin E, vitamin C, nettles, rosemary, flower essence and grapefruit seed extract. Eco Colors surpasses its competitors in performance with super conditioning coverage that is natural looking and shiny. Please note that ECO products typically do not last as long as chemical-based dyes. A color release form will need to be signed prior to receiving a color treatment.
Secrets of beauty have been cherished throughout the ages. One of the oldest beautifiers known is Henna. Famous beauties such as Nefertiti and Cleopatra used Henna to enhance their hair coloring. Silent film stars Theda Bara and Clara Bow colored their hair with Henna to add to their mystery. Today, women and men who understand how to be naturally beautiful use Henna. Henna comes from small shrubs, called Lawsonia, that are native to the Middle East, West Asia and North Africa. The leaves are dried and then pulverized to a fine powder. We use only the finest grade Henna. It is 100% organic with no additives, chemicals or pesticides. The Henna plates each strand of hair. The shade of Henna is reflected through the hair while enhancing the hair’s natural color. It is also a conditioner. The cuticle is smoothed by Henna’s sealing action, giving hair a polished look. Because the cuticle is tight and flattened, the hair is protected from atmospheric conditions, such as sun and air pollution. Regular use of Henna texturizes hair, giving it more body; this becomes more evident with each application. Henna may be applied every 4 to 6 weeks. Because the color blends so naturally and fades gradually, there is never a noticeable regrowth area.
Frequently Asked Questions and Answers about Henna
Can Henna be used on grey or white hair?
Yes it can. If there’s more than 25% grey, a double application is recommended on the same day.
Can Hair be lightened after Henna?
No. The Henna color will remain on the hair even if high lift blonde tints or bleaches are used.
Will Henna lighten hair?
No. Henna does not contain any lightening chemicals. Blonde Henna brings out yellow and golden brown highlights. Marigold Blonde Henna brings out gold and yellow highlights. Both add shine and body to grey hair.
How often can I use Henna?
Neutral Henna can be used on any type of hair every 4 weeks. All other shades can be used every 4 to 6 weeks. If color fades quicker than 4-6 weeks it is safe to re-apply sooner.
Use of henna has many benefits other than colouring the hair. Because it coats the strands of hair with the Lawsonia it makes the cuticles lie down flatter, which can result in smoother shinier hair with less tangling.
An anti-dandruff and scaly scalp treatment – Henna is naturally antifungal and antibacterial and some people have reported regular use of henna has helped with issues of dandruff and scaly scabby scalp.
Another effect of henna for more highly textured, curly, or coarse hair types, is a loosening and softening of hairs curl pattern, more ‘hang time’ with the hair – that is rather than hair standing straight up from the scalp it now hangs downwards, and also users notice they have a lot less shrinkage when hair dries. This benefit is often noticed by those who have used henna treatments at least three or four times in a short space of time say anything between three to eight weeks. This is due in part to the weight the various coatings henna adds to the hair strands and of course natural gravity.
People with fine, thin limp hair also notice that constant henna treatments give their hair more body, density, shine and all round bounce, again this is because the regular coats of henna will build up the hairs structure and result in thick stronger strands.
